If your customers use a chip card for their purchase in your business and you do not process the sale through Aldelo with an EMV chip card reader, then you could be liable for fraudulent or stolen card transaction chargebacks.
This is a MAJOR change in the industry, since before October 1st, 2015 the credit card company would be liable. With this change, the liability shifts to the merchant i.e. your business.
From a legal standpoint, you do not NEED to use a chip reader to process credit and debit cards transactions through your Aldelo POS system, but it will help protecting your business from those types of chargebacks.
Resolution:
The first option is to use the EMV Aldelo technology which is already built into your Aldelo system. Depending on your processing platform, you may be required to purchase a new Aldelo EDC license.
The second option is to use an independent payment terminal, such as a Veriphone. It should be noted this second option isn’t generally recommended and is a little more cumbersome for your business.
